It is used as a high-tech addition to Olympus electrosurgical systems to perform haemostasis during endoscopic manipulations.

The Olympus Argon Plasma Coagulator operates in three modes:
 - Continuous energy mode with stable power for coagulation and ablation of large-scale areas;
 - pulsed power mode;
 - Intelligent coagulation mode, where the system automatically determines the optimal power based on the distance to the tissue.

The use of intelligent mode increases safety of the procedure and reduces the carbonisation effect.
